A retreat about difference?

No matter how you describe the present moment—unprecedented, tumultuous, fractured, rapidly evolving —political disruption, social upheaval and environmental emergencies are challenging personal and world views and pushing us to find new ways to think and be together while ensuring we sustain and care for ourselves.

Whether intentionally or unintentionally—conscious or unconscious—the dynamics of power, privilege, bias, internalized oppression and superiority that are fostered in our societies show up inside of us and around us at every level of our lives.

As humans we often struggle with holding the tension between the possibility of ‘what could be’ and the reality of ‘what is’.  We know, too, that there is no one answer and that each one of us holds a piece of the puzzle—even those we disagree with.

We believe that whatever personal or societal divisions we face, the resources we need to transform our lives and the world can be found within us and between us—in the human heart and in community.

What will happen in this retreat?

In this series, we invite participants to turn toward difference and rise above its potential to polarize and fragment us. We’ll engage in an inquiry into these crucial questions:

  • What animates my deepest hope for my community, my country, the world and how do I give voice to that hope?
  • How can we listen to each other and give our attention, not just our opinion?
  • What are we called to do? Among the myriad challenges facing us, what is each of us most gifted, skilled, and positioned to do—or continue doing—to heal ourselves, our families, communities, and nations?

Together we’ll create a welcoming, caring and trustworthy space for participants to reflect on personal and communal questions. We'll follow the Circle of Trust® approach and practice deep listening and offer honest, open questions to support each other to find new perspectives, uncover personal wisdom and build courage. The retreat will also include Clearness Triads to support deep exploration of personal questions or dilemmas. Looking inward even as we face the outer challenges in the world is a necessary step in uncovering deep purpose and connectedness.

How will this retreat be different from other online events?

We'll work with the online setting in a balanced and purposeful way. Zoom will offer a gathering space for our interactions with each other as well as a platform to share images, music, poetry and story. There will be time off-screen for reflection and pondering, movement and rest.

Our hope is this retreat series gives people an opportunity to face and grapple with this moment in history. To do this well, we need communities of practice that nurture natural ways of being with ourselves and one another that move us towards wholeness and integrity.

Is the fee negotiable?

Yes. We acknowledge there are systemic barriers that can make it difficult to participate and access programs. We have made every effort to keep our fee low  while compensating facilitators for their time  If the rates listed here are still prohibitive to participation, please be in touch with us directly at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to discuss alternatives.
