We are happy to answer any questions you have about our retreats. Here are a few that others have asked:
Why are there two start times for the walking retreat? How will that work?
We are offering the opening session twice. Once at 7:30 am for those who would like to have as much as 2 hours for their walk and again at 8:30 am for those who prefer an hour of walking. Everyone will regather online 10:30 am for the closing session.
Does an online retreat really work?
Yes. An online retreat offers many of the same benefits of in-person retreats: protected time away from day-to-day concerns; space for reflection; gentle conversations; a slower pace. Of course, you won't have the advantage of a fresh physical environment, which can be helpful in finding new perspectives. Being in your own environment may offer advantages, too. No travel time, for one. And the transition from retreat to daily life can be smoother and allow you to bring new insights forward more easily.
We can tell you that participants in our recent Spring Retreat for Teachers often mentioned how surprised they were at how well an online retreat worked for them.
When you register we will offer some tips for making your online retreat experience a good one.
Whether in-person or online, our retreats offer an opportunity for self-care and renewal.
What can I expect?
Our retreats focus on pausing and stepping away from daily routines. Texts, images and art will act as catalysts for introspection. Gentle guidelines will support sharing in small groups. Simple meditations and gentle exercises will offer rest and renewal.
Can I bring the dog with me?
Dogs can be terrific walking companions. They can set the pace. Remind us to stop and smell, um, the roses. They may even want to join us in meditation. Or not.
What if I can't or don't want to go outside? What if there is bad weather?
Some participants may choose to stay indoors and use the virtual walking options we will provide if the weather is unpleasant or if they feel unsafe outdoors. If severe weather or global restrictions prevent all of us from going outdoors we will modify the retreat to 8:30 - 10:30 and offer suggestions for walking at another time when conditions permit.
Currently our retreats are pilot programs, ideas we are developing and testing. Both of us have led and participated in a variety of online retreats; we have confidence your experience will be a helpful one. Our costs are low and we wish to offer time and space to step back from this unusual and uncertain year.
